Gibson's latest novel re-introduces characters from the prequel Spook Country, such as Hubertus Bigend and Hollis Henry, on a quest for a secret clothing brand called Gabriel Hounds. Henry, now broke, takes on another assignment by Bigend to find the designer of this super-rare label in his attempt to gain access to the design, contracting, and manufacture of U.S. military clothing. ¶

Ex-junkie Mildred is also on the case, but early in the game powerful entities become interested in the hunt for the elusive designer. ¶
