Cover of 'Idoru'

'Idoru' is the second novel of what is commonly referred to as William Gibson's 'Bridge' trilogy. It takes place mainly in Tokyo, and the main characters of the book are very similiar to 'Virtual Light'. Gibson concentrates on the themes of media and popularity in a post-cyberpunk setting. ¶

'Idoru' [aidoru] is a Japanese word derived from the English 'idol'. Gibson said that the idea for the idoru came to him when he heard about the computer-generated Japanese pop star Kyoko Date. The Walled City was mainly inspirated by Ryuuji Miyamoto's photographs of the Walled City of Kowloon (Hong Kong). ¶
